Moving into a new house is not an easy task by any means.
Even more difficult when the term ‘moving’ includes changing cities, not just
the neighborhood. But then again, when you work in the tourism industry, moving
to new cities every few years becomes more of a habit. So here I am, in
Seattle, WA, in a big old house that I got on cheap will be my new home.
Almost all my previous homes were modern apartments in the
middle of the city, but this one is more of those classic American houses, with
an attic, backyard and a shed. It is very old though, hence my first though was
to rearrange the house and make it worth living.
After an hour worth of inspection, I found out that
everything apart from the electrical connections were in working order, just
needing a spit and shine to get the job done. Because electricity is integral,
I immediately looked up a few electricians in Seattle nearby me.
I managed to get one to come and have a look at the house,
and decided to think of what to do while he arrives. I took a look at the
electrical mains. The wiring was all out and messy, and I didn't feel like
touching them. Better to wait for the professional. I found out the mains
switch and turned it off.
Now with the electricity down, I looked around for broken
switchboards. My phone was running out of juice, so I quickly grabbed the
nearest socket, pulled it out, tore the wire down with my teeth and reconnected
the writing. I knew at least that much.
I turned on the mains and found out the socket had actually
started working. At the same time, the electrician arrived. Although I was
pleased with my little work, I decided its best for him to do a complete
repair, including the one I did.
